Personalise messages with fields
Insert contact values into flow messages using system fields and custom fields.
Fields let a flow use the values saved for the current contact. A name or answer can change from one contact to another.
Choose the field
Use a system field for a built-in value, or create a custom field for information you collect yourself. Names, email addresses, channel IDs, and other built-in values depend on the channel and the data available for the contact. Do not assume every field is populated.
Insert it in a message
- Open the message text in Flow Builder.
- Start typing
{{to open the field list. - Choose the intended field from the list. Check its name so you use the right value.
A system-field example:
Hello {{first_name}}
For a custom field, use the token inserted by the field picker. The general form is {{custom_field_name}}. In the dynamic-choice example, the saved response field is named color:
You chose {{color}}.
Keep the double braces and the field identifier intact. Typing a display label that does not match the field can produce the wrong result.
Check the message before publishing
Preview the message with the intended contact data. Check both populated and missing values, and adjust the wording or flow branches so a customer does not receive an incomplete message. Verify the final message on the channel you plan to use.
When the message depends on a reply collected earlier in the flow, place it after the response has been saved. See Dynamic multiple-choice options for the Data was saved branch.
