WhatsAppTemplate rejections

Fix a rejected WhatsApp template

Review template variables, samples, content, and rejection notices before resubmitting.

Start with the rejection reason shown by Meta. Check the template's wording and selected language, then review the relevant issues below. Meta's template-review guide explains the current approval and appeal process.

Check positional variables

For templates that use numbered positional parameters:

  • Use matching double braces, such as {{1}}.
  • Keep numbers sequential: {{1}}, {{2}}, {{3}}. Do not skip a number.
  • Do not put characters such as #, $, or % inside a positional placeholder.
  • Avoid starting or ending the message body with a variable.
  • Include enough fixed wording to explain the message; too many variables relative to the message length can cause rejection.

Meta also supports named parameters in template components. The numbered format above applies to positional templates. Follow the format supported by the template editor you are using; see Meta's template-component reference.

Add samples

If the template uses variables, include sample values when submitting it. Provide sample media for a media header so the reviewer can see the completed message. Review the preview before submission.

For image preparation, see WhatsApp template images.

Check the content and policy requirements

Review spelling, grammar, and whether the selected language matches the message. Use a descriptive template name so you can identify it later.

Meta lists policy violations among common rejection reasons. Check that the message:

  • Complies with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy, including its commerce restrictions where relevant.
  • Does not ask for full payment-card numbers, financial account numbers, personal ID numbers, or documents containing sensitive identifiers.
  • Does not contain abusive or threatening wording.

Also check for an existing template with the same body and footer. Meta can reject a duplicate; its review guide notes an exception to this duplication check for authentication templates.

Read the rejection notice

In Business Support Home, Meta's documented route is Account Overview, View my accounts, your Meta business account, your WhatsApp account, then Rejected message templates. Rejection information may also arrive by email.

Use the stated reason to decide whether to edit the template or appeal the decision. Approval of a revised template is still subject to Meta's review.

Edit and resubmit

In WhatsApp Manager, open Account tools, then Message templates. Select the correct account and template, correct its content, add the required samples, and submit it again.

If you disagree with the rejection, use Meta's available appeal process and include samples. Meta says review can take up to 24 hours; check the status shown in your account.

After approval, sync the template in Bual Pro before choosing it in a flow or the Inbox.
